	OVERVIEW Hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia is the most dangerous form of hypoglycemia. It can lead to irreversible brain damage if not accurately diagnosed. Tremendous progress has been made in this field over the past 10 to 15 years and it is imperative that health care professionals who encounter these patients are knowledgeable of the most up-to-date methods of diagnosis and treatment. This monograph will review the history of hyperinsulinism along with its pathophysiology, potential etiologies, and clinical features. Current methods for diagnosis and treatment of hyperinsulinism will be reviewed.
